OUR thoughts on Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Kalakaua Avenue, Waikiki
You simply cannot find a better location on Waikiki Beach, after all, this was the original major hotel, (opened in 1901), on the famous beach, so they had the pick of all the locations! The Moana Hotel was a charming, gracious hotel built in the days when all guests arrived in Hawaii by ship. It retains all the glamour and charm of this bygone era with its soaring columns and gorgeous old-world comfort, while also having moved with the times with regard to facilities and services. The Moana Hotel was built around a huge beach-side Banyan Tree which still exists and today’s guests still enjoy the shade and ambience of the hotel’s wide verandas overlooking the banyan tree and the afternoon teas and the pleasant nightly entertainment under and around this famous old tree. Of course, there are now many more dining options in the hotel. In addition guests have access to Starwood’s “Stay at One, Dine at All” program offer where guests at Moana Surfrider can enjoy dining, shows, oceanfront entertainment options, fitness center, and spa at Sheraton Waikiki, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani and The Royal Hawaiian and simply sign the charges back to their room.
At Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, enjoy the Heavenly Spa (which is one of only 20 in the entire world), a 24-hour fitness centre and a great deal more, but there’s nothing quite as pleasant as sitting on one of the rocking chairs on the front porch of the hotel and rocking gently while watching the passing action on Kalakaua Avenue. Adding to the charm, the lawn on the beach side of the Diamond Wing and the historic hotel lobby are favourite locations for weddings and it’s not uncommon to see bridal parties coming and going as you check in - especially during the afternoons and evenings.
It’s also hard to beat the experience of taking “High Tea” on the oceanfront veranda or sipping a tropical cocktail under the Moana Surfrider’s ancient banyan tree as the sun sets over Waikiki Beach.
