Our Thoughts on Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts, Motu Tiano, Tikehau Atoll, Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia
Le Tikehau is blue, surrounded by variations of blue. Where sky and water meet, the horizon is barely visible. The sky transfers its colors to the sea, erupting into dazzling turquoise, clear azure, sapphire, or cyan. It all depends on where you look and on the time of day. Like a pearl hidden in its oyster, Le Tikehau sits on a private motu. Its 33 bungalows and suites are built with natural materials, the overwater units are set on a translucent lagoon. The decoration is charming and comfortable, the grounds make up a green and flowery oasis on this land of coral.
One of the Pacific’s best-kept secrets, an atoll dear to the heart of Polynesians for its preserved beauty: suspended between sky and waves. Tikehau is a crown of coral islets that form an exceptional, 26-km long lagoon. In the language of the Tuamotu, Tikehau means “peaceful landing”, and it’s easy to understand the origins of its name. Nestled in a wild coconut grove, on a pink sand beach, Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts awaits you for a heavenly stay in the Tuamotu.

Your Accommodation Options
For a small resort in a spectacularly remote location, the accommodation options are many and varied. We’ll describe each option in detail to ensure you choose the right one for your perfect holiday. In general, we must say that we think the way The Resort has been laid out both on the land and over the water off-shore of its little island motu is just about perfect. The first thing that strikes us is the way the 2 groups of Overwater Bungalows/Suites have been placed so that they don’t impinge in a negative way on the view from the Beach Bungalows, the restaurant or the pool area. The 8 big Overwater Suites are located off the north-eastern edge of the island over the Tikehau Lagoon and the Overwater Bungalows are located off the western side on one of the passes between the ocean and the lagoon in an area rich with coral and marine life. The Beach Bungalows front the pink sand beach.
All accommodation is built in the authentic Polynesian style with abundant natural wood and a palm-frond thatched roof. Each Bungalow and Suite has a high roof and high vaulted ceiling.
Guests with limited mobility
One Overwater Bungalow is equipped for guests with limited mobility. Cement paths or wooden decks connect the rooms to the public areas (accessible restrooms.) Transfers between the Tikehau airport and the resort are done by boat. Please note that the boats are not equipped with ramps and embarkation as well as disembarkation may be challenging. The staff is available to assist at all times.
Room Categories (In ascending order of tariff)
Overwater Bungalows
55m2 including decks
The Overwater Bungalows are those bungalows located on the “western pontoon” closest to the shore. They are not air-conditioned, being located in such a way that they catch plenty of cooling breezes and have ceiling fans for natural cooling. They don’t offer direct access to the reef and sand below as the water is quite shallow in this location. Very similar in layout to the Beach Bungalows although, of course, the bathroom does not open to a courtyard, Overwater Bungalows have a glass floor panel under the coffee table enabling guests to view the marine life below. There is also a second deck on the opposite side to the main veranda/sundeck. Bathroom has shower only.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 1 Child aged under 13 years. (Maximum 4 persons in a room including an infant)
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a convertible Day Bed.

The Beach Bungalows feature a beautiful, private walled courtyard off the back which provides privacy for the interior/exterior bathroom (shower only) and there is a nice big (mainly covered) deck off the living area complete with sun-loungers. The interior of each Beach Bungalow is spacious and with the King Bed located right at one end, there is a large remaining space for day living.
