OUR Thoughts on Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa, Rangiroa Island, Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia
Rangiroa doesn’t always spring to mind as a holiday destination when contemplating an island breakaway in the Tahitian (French Polynesia) Islands as there are many islands which are better known, but don’t be put off by that, Rangiroa is a great spot and as an atoll, is totally different from the likes of Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti itself which all have rugged, high central mountains.  Rangiroa is one the biggest atolls in the world.  There are a multitude of low islands fringing an enormous lagoon and none of the islands is a lot more than 500 metres across from the ocean side to the lagoon side.  Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa Rangiroa shares the main island with the airport and the 2 main villages on Rangiroa; Avatoru, the main town and capital and Tiputa the closest village to the hotel. Avatoru is the centre of the Black Pearl industry on Rangiroa. 

The renovations in 2011 ushered in a major change for this property.  Not only have all the existing bungalows been substantially improved, but a good number of new Villas and Suites have been added together with amazing improvements to the inspiring Reception area, the restaurants, lagoon-front swimming pool complex, overwater bar and the new Spa complex. Before the improvements were made, this property tended to be mainly a base for scuba diving (and the diving in and around the Rangiroa Lagoon is world-standard), but now, Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa Rangiroa appeals equally to people seeking a good quality relaxing tropical holiday in a beautiful, natural setting, excellent food and very attentive service. Diving is now just one of the many services offered.  The resort has a Spa complex amongst the palm trees with several separate buildings each offering specialists spa and massage services.  There is also an air-conditioned Fitness Room.

The lagoon offers exceptionally good snorkelling – drift snorkelling is a Rangiroa specialty; just drift over the reefs and watch the marine life.  Take a quick 300 metre stroll through a coconut plantation to the other side of the island and you come to the wild ocean beach. It’s also interesting to hire a bicycle, motor scooter or car and explore the rest of the island with its villages, churches and the lagoon passages between the islands. As well as diving, game fishing is another activity to be enjoyed on the huge Rangiroa Lagoon.

The Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa is located on the northwest part of the atoll of Rangiroa, between the passes of Tiputa and Avatoru. Polynesian Evenings are held twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays. Enjoy a barbecue buffet featuring Tahitian delicacies and international options followed by a Polynesian dance show. 

Miki Miki Overwater Bar, open from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. Located over the lagoon, the Miki Miki Bar will be the ideal place for a nice refreshing cocktail as you lounge by the pool or relax on the beach. Light snacks are served from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The atoll of Rangiroa is a 1 hour flight from the main island of Tahiti and 1 hour and 15 minutes from the island of Bora Bora.”

Your Accommodation Options
Whenever we contemplate the accommodation options at Kia Ora Rangiroa, we always have difficulty deciding which option to take.  Unlike some resorts, the Beach Bungalows at Kia Ora Rangiroa are not the most expensive choice.  With the Beach Bungalows you get absolute beach frontage, big, beautiful traditional Polynesian-styling and the bonus of a Jacuzzi Spa Bath (can be heated) on your deck.  There is also an option of Overwater Bungalows which are built right over the lagoon reef and its myriads of tropical fish. You can easily swim right off the beach direct to the Bungalows.

Then, when you think you have everything worked out, you find that the accommodation a row back from the beach comprises individual privately walled Villas and modern-Polynesian style Junior Suites; these are a terrific option if you are seeking absolute privacy to sunbathe and swim as you will. With the Villas you get your own private swimming pool set in a walled garden complete with a shady pool gazebo and an open air Cleopatra-style bathtub in a private part of the garden – Pool Vilas and Junior Suites with Pool are pretty impressive!    

Kia Ora Rangiroa offers a total of 58 air-conditioned Bungalows, Villas and Suites which are spread along the south-west facing beach on the magnificent Rangiroa Lagoon – all catching the dazzling sunsets. The Beach Bungalows and the Deluxe Beach Bungalows are absolute beachfront. The Villas with Pool, the Junior Suites with Pool and the Family Suite are either immediately behind the Beach Bungalows or scattered amongst the tropical gardens of The Resort. All the land-based units have either a private Jacuzzi or a private plunge pool.  The 10 Overwater Bungalows are located off a stylishly curving “S” shaped boardwalk which sweeps out into the lagoon from between the Beach Bungalows.

All units have air conditioning & a fan, private terrace/patio, refrigerator, safety box and free Wi-Fi, phone, iPod dock station, flat screen television, coffee & tea facilities, bathrobes, hairdryer, iron, bathrobes and slippers, mini bar (filled on request) - Voltage is 220V and adapters are available on request.

 Beach Bungalows:
61m² in size with a private whirlpool spa bath set in the deck facing the lagoon. Both bedroom and living room open to the beachfront deck and both rooms offer wide views of the lagoon.

 Beach Duplex Bungalows:
The term “Duplex” refers to the American-style description of a duplex, not the Australasian-style description where a duplex normally refers to the fact that there are 2 units in one stand-alone building.  The American description of a duplex refers to the fact that the unit has 2 levels, in this case, 73m² over the 2 floors.  The top floor is a separate bedroom.  The ground floor contains a Studio Bedroom/lounge and bathroom with shower.  There is a private Jacuzzi Tub set in the deck to the side.

Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed in each bedroom
Additional Bedding: 1 Sofa Bed/Day Bed

Beach Deluxe Bungalows with Pool:
73.8m². Internal bathroom has a shower. Behind the bungalow there is a walled private garden which contains a romantic outdoor bath tub.  Out front there is a deck into which a private plunge pool has been set.

Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and 1 Sofa Bed/Day Bed

Villas with Pool:
Huge 184m² - Bathroom with shower. Each Villa is enclosed by a natural stone walled garden and features a private swimming pool surrounded by timber decking big enough to hold padded sun loungers as well as an outdoor dining setting.  There is a beautiful, thatched gazebo at the end of the pool and, in a very private section of the lawn, an outdoor bath tub is the finishing touch.  The private pool is a good size and features a shallow entry platform which heats up the water in the tropical sun

 Junior Suites with Pool:
At 194m², Junior Suites are absolutely beautiful with a big separate bedroom and a nice big lounge.  The bathroom has a shower and opens to an outdoor bathtub in the private garden. Junior Suites have a private pool, a spacious Pool Gazebo and padded sun loungers.

 Overwater Bungalows:
74.5m²in area. The open-plan main room is studio style with bedroom and lounge in the one big space.  Beside the sofa enjoy a view of the lagoon through a glass floor window. From the room two large windows open on to the deck where steps lead down to the water. The bathroom is modern and spacious. It has a separate shower, double vanity and a sunken bathtub between two glass fixtures which views of the lagoon. Outside the bungalow, a solarium furnished with two padded lounge chairs and a shaded dining table offer sweeping views across the lagoon. Overwater Bungalows feature a Solarium and decks with direct access to the lagoon.

Family Suite with Pool:
A superb 236m² Suite located central to the Restaurants, Reception, The Spa and the Resort Jetty and Pontoon.  There are 2 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms with shower and a separate Lounge. The private walled garden contains the swimming pool with extensive timber decking, padded sun loungers, and at the end of the pool a wonderful thatched Gazebo from which there is a view through the palms to the lagoon.  There is an outdoor bath tub too.  You would be hard pressed to find a more perfect suite setup anywhere in the Pacific.

Getting To and From Hotel Kia Ora & Spa
Air Tahiti, the domestic airline of French Polynesia has up to 3 direct flights every day between Papeete and Rangiroa. There are also other flights with 1 stop en route.  Direct flights take an hour. Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa Rangiroa is only minutes away from the airport and hotel transfers are provided for arriving and departing guests.

Kids’ Policy
 - Children are guests aged 3 to 11 years.
 - Babies and infants are those under the age of 3 years.
 - No special Kids’ Menu is available, but a 50% discount
   applies off the regular menu for children.

 Kids Stay Free
Children stay free when sharing with adults and utilising existing bedding.
 - Baby cots are available and are provided free of charge.
 - A baby sitting service can be arranged (charged).
