HOTEL HIBISCUS
North-West Coast, Moorea, French Polynesia
Our Thoughts on Hotel Hibiscus Moorea
This property offers a reasonable-price option for a stay on Moorea. Some years ago, there was a busy Club Med Resort in this area of Moorea and all sorts of services developed around the Club Med including private residences, “Le Petit Village” (small village shopping centre), restaurants and other hotel properties. Club Med, which is long closed, was adjacent to Hotel Hibiscus and now all the services exist to service the boutique hotels and the near-by residents.
The location is special – on the north-west coast of Moorea facing the sunset. The nearby off-shore lagoon motus shield the inner lagoon and the beaches and the lagoon out near the motus teams with marine life. Immediately outside Hotel Hibiscus the beach has been contained behind a low wall which provides a nice white-sand beach at low tide. The beach is a public beach so it can get quite busy, especially over weekends and during French Polynesia’s school and public holidays, however, most of the time the beach is almost deserted and feels like a private beach for Hotel Hibiscus guests.
With private residences in the vicinity, you will notice the roosters’ chorus in the early hours of the morning, but unless you are a particularly light sleeper, these sounds of nature are not necessarily unpleasant.
Hotel Hibiscus offers guests an option of either Hotel Room or Bungalow accommodation all with a kitchenette. It has an on-site swimming pool and a lovely open garden area, but the jewel in its crown is the terrific beachfront restaurant and bar “Le Sunset” with its veranda terrace virtually over the beach. The view from “Le Sunset” is of the lagoon, the off-shore small motus and on a clear night, the sunsets can be spectacular. The restaurant has a comprehensive menu of French, Tahitian and Italian dishes and a wood-fired pizza oven making great pizzas. For those guests who would like to sample other dining options there is a very good restaurant right next door to Hotel Hibiscus - The Mayflower, and there are other dining outlets within an easy walk.
Hotel Hibiscus has meal plans available – a choice of either Half Board (breakfast and one other meal) or Full Board and Our Specialists can advise costs of these options.
The on-site proprietors are helpful (and speak good English), so organising day trips, rental vehicles, water sports of any type, or perhaps The Polynesian Review at Tiki Village just along the coast, is easily organised. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of the small off-shore motus and a ride in the lagoon glass-bottom boat is a great way of viewing the marine life without getting wet!
Unlike a stay at one of the several excellent major resorts on Moorea where most activities and services are available on-site, staying at Hotel Hibiscus you get the feeling that you are part of a wider community and, for the right person that can be quite a rewarding experience.
