AMOA RESORT
Our Resort Report
OUR Thoughts on Amoa Resort, Siufaga Village, Savaii
People who have never had a holiday on a South Pacific Island may have the impression that there is very little to differentiate one from another. Experienced South Pacific travellers know that this is not true and so do we! Each Island country has a different culture and different attractions and each one has come to offer their own unique holiday experiences to visitors over a different historical time frame. Savaii, being an “island off an island” (Upolu) has developed their tourism in a quiet, sustainable fashion and due to this, visitors can expect a very pleasant, relaxingly simple, gentle and friendly atmosphere in beautiful natural surroundings. That’s what you get in spades at Amoa Resort on Savaii. The resort is very much part of the village where it is located and guests who give themselves more than a couple of days to spend here will very soon appreciate the uniqueness of the experience to be had.It takes around 15 minutes by road from Salelologa Town, (where the ferry from Upolu arrives), to reach Siufaga Village and Amoa Resort. First impressions of the resort are of the brand new open-style Lobby and Reception Desk and drive-in car port which offers a pleasant welcome. From Reception you are greeted by the modern pool complex (with swim-up bar), the full-service Petalani Beauty Spa and the well-presented bungalows which are hidden from the road in the beautiful tropical gardens. Just across the road there is a picture-perfect little beach and a sparkling lagoon which leads out to the circling reef. The Resort’s totally renewed first floor restaurant above the lobby, “Amoa Restaurant & Bar” provides diners with two-way spectacular views from the wide veranda – either over the lagoon or over the resort pool. The menu has been fully upgraded by the new team of chefs. If you have a few days here, you will quickly appreciate and enjoy the “at home” atmosphere the staff deliver and once you have settled in to what we call the “Amoa mode” you will thoroughly enjoy the whole experience. Take the opportunity to wander down the road beside the lagoon while you listen to the kids playing sports in the village, or take one of the options provided by the resort staff to visit the village with them. You will enjoy trying out the local bus service down to Salelologa Town to the market or to the local supermarket to stock up on beer and nibbles. Buses here are so much fun and so much more laid-back than those in busy Apia. An alternative to taking the bus to the local supermarket is to take a pleasant 20 minute walk. There are plenty of attractions to visit on Savaii and the majority of them can be experienced on an organised day trip around the island organised by the staff at Amoa Resort. After that, you can take the local bus or hire a rental car to go back to the places you would like to visit in more depth on another day. We like the many new activities available which including “Dinner in the Village” where guests experience a real Samoan village occasion and learn something of Samoan Culture. We also recommend the new Plantation Tour by Jeep and the “Cook & Taste” demonstrations which have been recently introduced, both of which provide great fun and friendship. The facilities and services at Amoa Resort are a very good standard and well maintained, but ultimately, what makes a stay at this resort so enjoyable is the lovely, friendly interaction with the staff, many of whom come from the local village and who naturally want to make you welcome.

The Garden Villas are in a block of 4 rooms and the 12 New Garden Rooms are within the tropical garden and are a further distance from main lobby and 1 row behind the Poolside Villas, the 3 Resort Rooms are located a little closer to the road and the restaurant and the 6 Poolside Villas and the 2 Family Poolside Villas surround the pool and are a little further away from the road. The road outside Amoa Resort is the main circle island road, but traffic is not heavy and it drops away to a trickle in the late afternoon and evenings.
