LE LAGOTO RESORT & SPA
Our Resort Report
OUR Thoughts on Le Lagoto Resort & Spa, Fagamalo, Savaii
A quality little resort with a surprising range of services and facilities in what is a fairly remote location. The beach, which is off to one side of the bungalows, is beautiful and the lagoon out front is perfect for swimming at any phase of the tide. Le Lagoto has a lovely horizon pool and because the lagoon swimming is so good out front, guests enjoying the pool, will often have the pool to themselves!
All the resort buildings are like works of art – a pleasant fusion of traditional Samoan and contemporary architecture. The big open-style restaurant fale has a wide deck out front which is a perfect spot to take in the spectacular sunsets, the separate resort bar provides a special view out over the horizon pool to the lagoon beyond and the “Sunset Spa”, while providing privacy for treatments, is almost on the beach.
Le Lagoto is something of a “personality resort”. It isn’t unusual to find individual staff members providing all sorts of different services to guests, everything from mixing cocktails, waiting tables and taking guided tours of Savaii. With only 10 accommodation units it is usual for staff to immediately know you by name.
Your Accommodation Options
Le Lagoto accommodation is all individual high quality Samoan-style fales. The 10 Fales are arranged in two rows with 5 fales in each row and each is of the same design and high standard. The five fales in the front row are designated Beachfront Bungalows and the five fales in the row behind are known as Oceanview Bungalows. The Beachfront Bungalows have unobstructed views of the lagoon from their patio verandas. The Oceanview Bungalows are staggered behind and provide good lagoon views between the Beachfront Bungalows. The first impression of the bungalows is that they appear close together, however, due to the thoughtful way they have been designed, the perceived closeness just isn’t a problem for occupants.
Immediately in front of the fales there is a natural rock wall which leads directly to the lagoon. A wooden stairway with around 20 steps allows guests comfortable access to the lagoon. The beach runs off the side of this rock wall in front of the pool, restaurant and spa.
Like the lobby, restaurant and bar, the accommodation bungalows are works of art. Each one is a traditional oval shape with high, native timber-lined ceilings and exposed natural beams which have been tied together in the way Samoan fales have been built for decades. The walls are also lined in native timber and the wooden floor is covered with finely woven Samoan mats. The fales have timber slate roofs. Each one has a covered veranda out front which is big enough to hold 2 chairs and 2 sun-loungers. There is a modern ensuite bathroom. All fales are spacious and air-conditioned; although for most of the year, the high ceilings, the open-plan nature of the room and the banks of louvre windows provide natural cooling and air-conditioning isn’t really necessary.
