CASTAWAY NORFOLK ISLAND
Our Pacific's Resort Report
OUR Thoughts on Castaway Norfolk Island, Burnt Pine, Norfolk Island
This little hidden gem is a great option for a Norfolk Island holiday. The buildings date back to the 1970s but have been extensively refurbished over recent times and now, once again, the hotel offers a good modern standard of accommodation and services. Tucked in down a private driveway adjacent to the much bigger South Pacific Resort Hotel, Castaway faces a long green valley and guests enjoy the valley views. Some accommodation units offer a glimpse of the sea and Phillip Island.
Castaway’s restaurant gets good reviews, but it isn’t open every night for dinner. However, that’s not a problem, because staying here it is only a short walk to the RSL Club for good club-style dining and from there it is only a short walk into town where the “Bowlo Bistro” (Bowls Club) offers a good dining alternative for dinners. One helpful innovation offered by Castaway to guests is their “Shared Kitchen” facility where guests in Garden Rooms, (which don’t have a self-catering facility) may share a hotel kitchen with other guests. Guests staying in the Apartments don’t need to use the share kitchen as all apartments are equipped with private kitchens which are fully stocked with appliances, pots, crockery and cutlery. The location of Castaway so close to town means guests can easily nip out to the supermarket for supplies.
We can organise your booking to be on a room-only basis or with either a full cooked or continental breakfast included.
The current owner/managers of Castaway Norfolk Island have done an excellent job of upgrading the whole property and they are on hand to assist with any guest requirements in form of recommendations on how to make the most of your visit to the island, perhaps to organise a rental car for a day or two (we can book a rental car for your whole stay prior to your arrival if you prefer) suggest walks, book a fishing trip and so on.
The cheapest accommodation type for a couple at Castaway Norfolk Island, the Garden Hotel Rooms is good value, but for only around A$10.00 a night additional, the 1 Bedroom Apartments are a great option. For a 1 Bedroom Apartment you would be wise to make your bookings through us as early as possible as they are in high demand.
Included in the room tariff at Castaway Norfolk Island:
● Arrival & departure airport transfers
● Complimentary fruit punch on arrival
● Complimentary Half-Day Orientation Tour.
What Castaway Norfolk Island Say About Themselves
"Castaway Norfolk Island is owned and run by Sarah and Tony Watts who have undertaken an extensive refurbishment program to present the island’s newest addition to its accommodation offerings. Built in the 1970s by Sarah’s grandfather, Ken Prentice, The Castaway, as it then was, had a long and illustrious life as one of Norfolk’s cherished accommodation houses. Sarah and Tony have taken on the rejuvenation of this Norfolk icon as a personal challenge and Castaway Norfolk Island has flourished under their energetic approach.
Sarah, Tony, little Stella and schnoodle, Pepsi, make Castaway Norfolk Island your home away from home when you holiday on Norfolk Island. It is an oasis of calm in the centre of Norfolk Island.
The Castaway is a 20 room boutique property located in the heart of Burnt Pine. All rooms are a stylish, modern design with garden views. The property features an onsite restaurant/bar, and covered deck overlooking the valley.”
