OUR Thoughts on Drehu Village Hotel
There is something very pleasant about a stay at Drehu Village Lifou. The hotel is located on the seafront in Drehu Village which is, for all intents and purposes, a part of Lifou’s main town and commercial centre – Wé. Staying at Drehu Village means you are walking distance to a couple of supermarkets and the sleepy town while enjoying a beach stay on the east-facing beach of Chateaubriand Bay which curves around out front and into the distance.
For a 3 Star rated property, there are good facilities, such as a beautiful little restaurant and lounge which front a pleasant swimming pool surrounded by a wooden deck. There are beautiful views of the beach and the bay to be enjoyed from the restaurant which is almost right on the beach and open for all meals. WiFi is available in the hotel lobby lounge. The town supermarkets, especially the bigger of the two, provide the opportunity to buy a lunch or two as an alternative to taking lunch at the hotel every day.
Lifou is a lot more laid-back than Noumea – the environment is more akin to that in the north of Grand Terre – the main island of New Caledonia on which Noumea is located. Things are slower and the fusion of the Melanesian and French cultures is more pronounced here. For example, you will see traditionally-built round Melanesian-style rooms attached to some of the more modern houses in the villages.
Give yourself three or four days at least to really dig in and enjoy this unique environment. There are a lot of sights and locations to visit from Drehu Village, and while you can take organised tours, unless your French language is up to scratch, you might find the guides’ commentary a little difficult to follow. We recommend a rental car as the best form of transportation. This will enable you to visit the many superb beaches scattered around the coastline like Turtle Bay to the south and Jinek to the north and to drop into the various natural places of interest along the way – such as “Devil’s Grotto”.
At Drehu Village the sunrise is spectacular, so rise early and watch the sun rise then go for a walk or run along the beach before breakfast. Drehu Village is a place to kick-back, relax and enjoy the change of pace and culture.

All the bungalows have been refurbished in 2008 with new furniture, paintings and decoration. Now, the hotel has two suites.

Your Accommodation Options
All the accommodation at Drehu Village was last renovated in 2008. There are 28 Bungalows and 2 Suites arranged in 2 rows along the beach. The front row is only steps away from the beach over a small lawn, the second row is behind the front row and slightly raised above to provide a view of the sea between the bungalows in front. All bungalows are air-conditioned and spacious with pleasant lounge furniture as well the beds in one big, open-plan space. There are screened louvres to allow air to circulate. Each Bungalow has a good-sized bathroom as well as a furnished veranda/terrace. The Bungalows are arranged in duplex style, that is 2 Bungalows to each individual building.
Each of the 2 Suites is rather like the size of 2 Bungalows and comprise a bedroom and a separate living room. Sliding screens may be drawn over between the living room and the bedroom if privacy is required.

Getting To and From Drehu Village, Lifou
The flight from Noumea’s Magenta Domestic Airport to Lifou takes 40 minutes and operates several times a day. Airport transfers in both Noumea and Lifou are normally organised in advance of arrival at Lifou and included in costs by Our Specialists for guests travelling on a holiday package.

Hotel Cancellation/Modification Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing
Bookings cancelled or modified between 24 hours and 7
days of scheduled arrival date will incur a
cancellation fee equal to the cost of staying 1 night
at the rate booked.
Bookings cancelled or modified within 24 hours of
scheduled arrival and guests who fail to show incur a
cancellation fee equal to the full cost of all the
accommodation booked.
Guests who fail to show on the scheduled arrival date
will be charged 1 night rate as a cancellation fee.
