OURE LODGE
Kanumera Bay, Isle of Pines, New Caledonia
OUR Thoughts on Oure Lodge
You simply have to be impressed with the location and surroundings of Oure Lodge. You find this 4 Star-rated Resort tucked away at one end of fabulous Kanumera Bay on the south-west of Isle of Pines on a hauntingly beautiful stretch of Kanumera Beach. From Oure Lodge, the Bay seems to close around you although there is a wide opening to the bay out of sight around the headland.
But that’s not all; less than 1 kilometre away across a narrow neck of land you come to gorgeous Kuto Bay with another wonderful stretch of white-sand beach. Kuto Bay is where the ferry from Noumea (which operates 3 times a week) stops and where international Cruise Ships often visit for a day disgorging a couple of thousand passengers for a day visit - these people are not allowed to be dropped at Kanumera Beach, so the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings at Oure Lodge are maintained even on Cruise Ship days.
For those staying a few days there are plenty of interesting places to visit in the near vicinity. Near the inter-island wharf you find Old Government House and in that vicinity “Boutique Creations Isle of Pines.” A little further along and backing Kuto Bay there is the tiny Kuto Village and another 500 metres or so, a pleasant little local café Le Snack Tadey. There are several small Gites (guesthouses) along the way between Oure Lodge and Le Snack.
All this makes a stay at Oure Lodge a very enjoyable experience. You have a great little resort in superb natural surroundings as well as other places of interest within walking distance. Of course all the other attractions of Isle of Pines are easily accessible by vehicle. The island is not huge – a non-stop drive from one side to the other takes around 30 minutes.
Oure Lodge offers a range of complimentary activities for guests. There is a lovely swimming pool very handy to the beach, use of snorkelling gear; canoes, petanque and table tennis are all available for guests. Buffet breakfast for 2 guests is included in the tariff. The Resort has a very nice restaurant and bar and an island boutique which stocks a good range of interesting items for sale. They have a Tour Desk with helpful staff.
Stay a few days – this is a great spot and an overnight stay doesn’t do it full justice, but if you only have 1 night available on your itinerary, this place is still well worth a visit.
What Oure Lodge Say About Themselves:
“Kanumera Bay, rightly recognised as one of the world 10 best beaches, offers the perfect setting to the Hotel Oure Ile des Pines which is delicately nestled against a big boulder at the end of the magnificent one kilometre long white sand beach.
Protected by a rocky cape and facing the West, the hotel enjoys a prime position and offers breathtaking views of the spectacular sunsets.
Kuto perfect white sandy beach, ideal for swimming, is just a few steps away. Hundreds of colourful tropical fishes inhabit the coral reefs just a few metres away from the hotel. Dolphins and dugongs (sea cows) can often be seen in the crystal clear water of the bay.
In complete harmony with the idyllic surroundings and in full respect of the Melanesian traditions, Oure Tera Beach Resort offers a level of comfort and services of an excellent 4 stars resort.
Oure Lodge opened in January 2003 and is currently undergoing an upgrading program with in particular, the extension of the reception area, construction of a new boutique and a superb Melanesian style beach bar right on the beach. Furniture and hotel equipment will also be upgraded or replaced.
With its elegant décor, the Kanumera Restaurant & Bar is the perfect place to enjoy our island cuisine specialties; freshly caught fish and seafood and the famous Isle of Pines lobster play a key role on the menu. Relax in La Banian bar located next to the restaurant and try one of our delicious exotic cocktails… unless you’d rather sip your drink by the poolside or on our beach as you watch the sun set over the lagoon in a blaze of glory.”
