OUR Thoughts on Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort, New Caledonia
Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort is on Maitre Islet, a beautiful little island in the lagoon off Noumea. Maitre Islet is approximately 4 kilometres off Anse Vate Bay and can be clearly seen from Anse Vate. The lagoon is full of marine life and it is not uncommon for guests staying in the Overwater Bungalows at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort to be visited by the turtles living in the lagoon.  Maitre Islet is a long, narrow island which broadens out a little to the north and south.  Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort's central hotel facility is in the middle of the island at its narrowest part and faces west capturing the sunsets.  The swimming pool complex has a swim-up bar and a beautiful semi-circular alfresco dining deck built around the pools and out over the lagoon.

The tariff at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort includes a full buffet breakfast. Although meals are mainly buffet-style, a chef attends the buffet and will cook eggs, steaks etc as required. We know that many guests use the Resort Shuttle boat to go into town to stock up on wine and snack food which they consume back in and around their Bungalows.

The island is open to day-trippers from Noumea and can be quite busy during the day, especially during the weekends.  However, the island is long and narrow with lots of beaches so there is plenty of space for day-trippers and hotel guests to spread out. As a result of having the day-trippers Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort does have an extremely wide range of activities on offer from jet skis to banana-boat rides and stand-up paddle boards.

There is always something happening at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort. The recently added outdoor wedding chapel on an artificial islet in the middle of the lagoon regularly hosts wedding. There is always an active vibe about the place during the day, but as the sun sets over the lagoon and the day-trippers depart, the whole atmosphere changes to a beautiful tropical calm.

Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort is a destination in itself and you could easily spend a week or more enjoying what it has to offer.  It’s also a pleasant change from the mainland for a few days on any holiday in New Caledonia.

Your Accommodation Options
Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resorthas three accommodation options.  The Garden Bungalows are scattered through the tropical gardens, but as this is a long, narrow island, you are only ever metres from the beach when staying in a Garden Bungalow. The Beach Bungalows are so close to the beach you are almost in the water! Overwater Bungalows are magnificent.  Spread out along a gently snaking boardwalk with one end of the boardwalk handy to the main hotel complex and the other some distance along the island. No matter which end of the boardwalk your bungalow is located on, it is always a pleasant stroll between your bungalow and the Resort Pool, Restaurant, Lounge etc - especially so after dinner in the cool of the night.

All accommodation is air-conditioned (see note re Overwater Bungalows) and includes a tea/coffee making facility, a mini fridge and an iron and ironing board. Garden Bungalows make quite a use of natural wood and fibre panelling in their interiors while Beach Bungalows tend to have a slightly more modern wood and painted interior décor. Overwater Bungalows also have a natural tropical décor and plenty of windows over the lagoon. Complimentary Wifi is available in all bungalows.

Deluxe Garden Bungalows:
Located in the heart of the island’s tropical garden, the 20 Deluxe Garden Bungalows are 36m² in size and each has a separate bathroom with walk in shower.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and 1 Doube Sofa Bed.


Deluxe Beach Bungalows:
Located beachside with floor to ceiling windows opening out to terrace. The 8 Deluxe Beach Bungalows are 36m² and each has a nice little furnished patio.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and 1 Doube Sofa Bed.


Deluxe Overwater Bungalows:
The 20 overwater bungalows have an unsurpassed view over the lagoon and are located in the midst of a 200-hectare natural Marine Reserve.  Each Bungalow has a separate bedroom and separate lounge.  Only the bedroom is air-conditioned. The spacious bathroom is in Italian marble and features a shower separate from the bath. A private terrace (deck) facing the sunset is equipped with steps leading directly to the lagoon. As you enter the Overwater Bungalow you will notice that each one faces outward to the lagoon and away from the island and this not only provides privacy but also superb views out over the lagoon. The terrace (deck) also faces outward and has a set of steps leading down to the lagoon. Each Bungalow is 51m² with a 13m² terrace.

One Bedroom Villa:
Located beachside, the One Bedroom Villa is 51m² with a 13m² terrace. This villa can interconnect with the Two Bedroom Villa

Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and 1 Doube Sofa Bed.

Two Bedroom Villa:
Located beachside, the Two Bedroom Villa is 64m² with two separate bedrooms and a 13m² terrace. This villa can interconnect with the One Bedroom Villa
Maximum Occupancy: 5 Adults or 4 Adults and 2 Children or 2 Adults and 4 Children.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed in each bedroom and 1 Doube Sofa Bed.

Getting To and From Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort.
The Resort Boat “Coral Palms” (a decent-sized boat with internal seating), runs a scheduled service between l’Escapade Island and Port Moselle - the Downtown Noumea Marina, ferry and cruise ship terminal. Port Moselle is only a few blocks and an easy walk to and from Noumea’s central point - Place De Cocotiers. Year-round, there are 2 services each day and additional services are scheduled in the peak season. l’Escapade Island resort is approximately 6 kilometres by sea from Port Moselle.

Children aged under 3 years stay free when sharing a room with paying adults (subject to room maximum occupancy policies).

Children aged 3 to 11 years are charged at a flat rate which includes buffet breakfast and return boat transfers.
Children in Overwater Bungalows
Children aged under 12 years are accepted in Overwater Bungalows but a safety disclaimer form signed by parents is required.
An unsupervised kids' playground is provided.

Early check-in and late check-out up may be applied for in advance.  However, the delivery of this service is always subject to availbility on arrival at the resort and is payable direct to the resort once confirmed.

To guarantee immediate access to booked room when arriving prior to 2:00pm the hotel levies an additional 1 night accommodation charge.

Cancellation Policy
 All cancellations must be made in writing
 Cancellations made more than 48 hours before arrival date:
     no charge
 Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to scheduled
     arrival incur a cancellation fee equal to the cost of staying
     1 night in the accommodation type booked.
 No shows are charged 100% of the accommodation
     booked and confirmed.
