Our Thoughts on Royal Kona Resort
Royal Kona Resort is a 3 Star hotel in a spectacular location overlooking Kailua-Kona Bay and the open sea.  Built some years ago, as the Kona Hilton Beach & Tennis Resort (although Hilton has moved on to another resort location in the Waikoloa district), the now Royal Kona Resort still retains a major presence on its jutting headland on the Ali’i Drive strip of the Kona Coast.  From this location, all accommodation (except for the Standard Guest Rooms) provides guests with a very pleasant marine outlook from the room, the lanai or both. At the Royal Kona, guests enjoy the cliff-top experience, from which the tropical sunsets are often a blaze of colour and the waves washing against the lava cliffs lull you to sleep.  The circular open-sided restaurant is a favourite place for buffet breakfasts.  Please note the facilities guide panel on the right of this page for the full list of all services and amenities on offer.

Many resorts are scattered up to 4 kms along the Kona Coast, but it is charming, historic Kona town skirting the coast, which is easy walking distance from Royal Kona, which is the main point of interest. The more commercial part of the town, where you find supermarkets and Walmart, is three or four blocks inland from the pier.  The town is approximately 1.3km from Royal Kona, but the local restaurants, bars and services start only 50 metres-or-so from the resort’s Bay Tower.  On the 900-metre stroll to the historic Kona Inn on the waterfront in the historic part of town, you pass the following food/drink outlets:  Huggo’s, On The Rocks, Bongo Ben’s, An ABC Store, Humpy’s Big Island Alehouse, Thai Rin, Island Lava Java, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co and Kona Farmers Market – to name but a few. The waterfront café restaurant at the Kona Inn is a great spot to relax and take in the pleasant laid-back atmosphere of Kona. 

Royal Kona offers plenty of entertainment and their regular Luaus are a major draw-card not only for guests of the resort but also for guests of surrounding resort properties. You don’t find sandy beaches in this part of The Big Island, but at Royal Kona, there is an oceanfront swimming pool, a private saltwater swimming lagoon and a sandy sunning area.

Note Regarding “Resort Fees”
In recent times, in high tourist areas of USA like Las Vegas and Hawaii, some hotels/resorts, have introduced what is known as “Resort Fees”.  Resort Fees are a compulsory additional charge per day and are not included in the accommodation tariff but payable direct by the guest on check-in at the hotel/resort.  Resort Fees can range from as little as US$3.00 per night up to as much as US$30.00 or more per night.  
As at August 2018, Royal Lahaina Resort does not charge Resort Fees.

Your Accommodation Options
The resort comprises 3 low-rise towers, of 6 to 7 floors each.  The central “Ali'i Tower” is home to the open-air lobby, reception and Don the Beachcomber restaurant. The “Lagoon Tower” (also housing the beauty salon and self-service laundry) is on the South side of the resort overlooking the private beach area and salt water lagoon. To the north and closest to Kailua-Kona town, the “Bay Tower” also houses the massage and spa center.

The Guest Rooms and the Ocean Front Corner rooms are found fin all three towers.

Full ocean views from these rooms on the front face of the hotel buildings.
Approximately 42m² in area
Full panoramic ocean views. Located on the front corners of the three towers, these rooms feature a wraparound lanai with sliding glass doors on the front and side of the room.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed.
Additional Bedding: One Rollaway Bed may be added at additional charge. A complimentary baby cot may be added subject to not exceeding room maximum occupancy policy.

Suites
 Ocean View Kailua Bay Junior Suites:
Kailua Bay Suites offer views of the ocean from inside the room, and are located on each floor of the Alii Tower. Each suite consists of a lounge area with fold-out sofa sleeper and a separate open concept bedroom separated from the lounge by a high screen.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and one queen-size fold-out Sofa Bed.
Additional Bedding: One Rollaway Bed may be added at additional charge. A complimentary baby cot may be added subject to not exceeding room maximum occupancy policy.

 Royal Ocean Junior Suites:
Located in each of the three towers, Royal Suites offer full panoramic ocean views. Each suite consists of a lounge area with sofa and separate open concept bedroom with a private wrap-around lanai facing the ocean.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed and one queen-size fold-out Sofa Bed.
Additional Bedding: One Rollaway Bed may be added at additional charge. A complimentary baby cot may be added subject to not exceeding room maximum occupancy policy.

 2 Bedroom Ocean View Kailua Bay Junior Suites:
Effectively an Ocean View Kailua Bay Junior Suite interconnected with a normal Hotel Room giving a lounge and 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms.
Maximum Occupancy: 8 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed, 2 Double Beds and queen-size fold-out Sofa Bed in the lounge.
Additional Bedding: One Rollaway Bed may be added at additional charge. A complimentary baby cot may be added subject to not exceeding room maximum occupancy policy.

Getting to and from Royal Kona Resort
Kailua-Kona is best accessed via Kailua-Kona Airport which is handily located only around a 15- minute drive from Royal Kona Resort. We will provide a coach or private car arrival/departure transfer from/to the airport in package arrangements as required/agreed.

Royal Kona Resort is located approximately 1.3km from central Kailua-Kona.  It’s an easy walk into town, especially in the morning or later in the afternoon when the sun shouldn’t be so hot.

Kids Policy

Children aged under 18 years stay free when sharing accommodation with parents and utilising existing bedding.
 Little Kids Eat Breakfast Free
Children aged under 6 years a provided complimentary buffet breakfast when accompanied at the breakfast buffet by an adult paying for a buffet breakfast.

Applies to 1 child aged up to and including 5 years of age per paying adult.

Check-in/Check Out
The hotel advise that they will do all possible to accommodate guests arriving prior to 3:00pm but can only guarantee accommodation will be available immediately on arrival if accommodation has been booked and paid from the night prior to arrival.
Check In Time: 4.00pm
Check Out Time: 11:00am

Cancellation Policy
 All cancellations must be made in writing.
 Cancellations made within 4 business days of scheduled
      arrival incur a cancellation fee equal to the
     cost of staying 2 nights at the accommodation booked.
 Guests who fail to show on the scheduled date of arrival
      are charged a cancellation fee as above.
