Our Thoughts on Aqua Waikiki Wave
This hotel really is right in the centre of all the Waikiki action without being hemmed in on all sides by massive high-rise buildings. While it has a Kuhio Avenue address, the main accommodation faces of the hotel are over Dukes Lane to the World Trade Centre to the west and over the International Market Place to the east and only the narrowest part of the building is actually on the busy street side.
During 2015 and a major part of 2016 The International Market Place is undergoing a major redevelopment and this does impact somewhat during the day on the east facing rooms and suites, however, the demolition of the old market place buildings has been mainly completed and now the rebuilding phase is under way. Waikiki Wave recognises the fact there is some noise associated with the market redevelopment process and thoughtfully provides light-sleeper guests on that side of the building with ear plugs! There is very little construction noise on the west side of the building. The plans for the redevelopment of The International Market Place includes a series of 3 level buildings with shopping on the first 2 floors and entertainment/restaurants on the third level. The plan also calls for a 5 level car park with valet parking. The impressive Banyan Tree remains in place and there will be plenty of pleasant open spaces, so Aqua Waikiki Wave will really come into its own once the new centre opens.
Because the rooms mainly face away from Kuhio Avenue, guests staying at Waikiki Wave tend to get a feeling of connection towards the Waikiki beach precinct rather than to the city and the interior mountains.
Walking down Dukes Lane beside the hotel (lots of market stalls on the lane) gives direct access to Kalakaua Avenue and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Centre almost straight into the famous Cheezecake Factory (not that you can ever get straight in to the Cheezecake Factory – there is always a queue although it’s well worth the wait).
Aqua Waikiki Wave is surrounded by shops and eating-places, there are 2 Starbucks nearby where you can get a really good breakfast and of course, ABC stores on almost every corner.
Waikiki Wave is not a resort as such, in that it has no swimming pool or sun deck. What it does offer though is great staff, decent-sized accommodation, a really good location in the midst of the action of Kuhio Avenue and very handy to Kalakaua Avenue and the beach. For those seeking 3 Star accommodation at 3 Star prices in Waikiki while not intending to spend a great deal of daylight time in their hotel room (mainly pertains to stays in 2015), this is a worthwhile option to consider for a terrific Waikiki holiday.

The 3 Star-rated Aqua Waikiki Wave is a mid-rise property of 15 floors and 247 guest units. Like its sister property the Aqua Waikiki Pearl which is half a block away over Kuhio and on Nahua Street, Aqua Waikiki Wave is more of a hotel than a resort as it has no swimming pool or spa etc., but there is a Fitness Centre available and remedial massage by the shop-front tenant of the building Barefoot Massage can be organised in-room. All units have a limited self-catering facility in the form of a microwave oven. The hotel is undergoing a gradual refurbishment which has started on the lower floors and will progress over time to the upper floors.

The Partial Ocean View Rooms are 30.4m2 in size and are located on the higher floors. The balcony outlook is towards Kalakaua Avenue and the Pacific Ocean either over the low-rise Royal Hawaiian Resort or between the high-rise buildings on Kalakaua Avenue.

The 47.8m2 One Bedroom King Suites are ideal for a family with their separate bedroom and separate living area. Although generally located on lower to middle floors the outlook from these rooms is still quite pleasant.

The 47.8m2 are the same size as their King Suite counterparts, but feel bigger due to their corner building location and twin balconies. The 3 Queen Beds are located 1 in the bedroom, and 2 in the living area. These rooms are ideal for bigger families and groups of friends travelling together.

Getting to and from Aqua Waikiki Wave
We will include a coach arrival/departure transfer between Honolulu International Airport and Aqua Waikiki Wave as required/agreed in package arrangements. Private Car transfers are available at additional cost.
While Waikiki Wave is located a main block back from the beach on Kuhio Avenue, because of its position on the south side of Kuhio it has the impression of being closer to the beach than hotels on the north side of the road. Waikiki Wave couldn’t be closer to the centre of the Waikiki action as it stands on the corner of Kuhio Avenue and Dukes Lane and right beside the International Market Place. Wander down Dukes Lane past the myriad of market stalls which line the lane and you soon arrive at Kalakaua Avenue and Waikiki Beach. Being less than half a block away from the Food Pantry Supermarket is handy. The Bus and the Waikiki Trolleys stop on Kuhio Avenue right across the road from Waikiki Wave.
