KORO SUN RESORT & RAINFOREST SPA
Our Resort Report
Our Thoughts on Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa, Savusavu, Vanua Levu Island, Fiji
Like so many of the very special places on Fiji’s “other islands” Koro Sun is delightfully different and a great place to holiday. Sure, to get there it involves another (short but scenic) flight but the small extra effort is so well rewarded by the outstanding character and the first-rate facilities you encounter from the moment you arrive.
A short 15-minute drive from Savusavu Airport brings you to the south coast of Vanua Levu and Koro Sun. This lovely mid-size resort is divided into two segments by the Hibiscus Highway along which you travel to get here. To the left of the highway as you arrive is the “Rainforest” section which contains the barefoot golf course, tennis courts, the Clubhouse, Matakau Restaurant and the superb Rainforest Spa. The Rainforest section is the location of the Garden Bures, the 2 Bedroom Bures, the magnificent Two Bedroom Pool Bures beside the golf course - each with a private plunge pool, and the two 3 Bedroom Villas which extend off the side of the lily ponds out over the ponds and provide views up and down the stream. The gardens of the Rainforest section rise from the lily ponds and follow the stream towards the interior hills of Vanua Levu behind.
The “Edgewater” section of Koro Sun lies to the right of the highway and comprises two narrow fingers of land which curl out into Koro Bay forming a sheltered lagoon and marina. The remarkable Edgewater Floating Bures (for adults-only) are permanently attached to floating boardwalk piers within the sheltered marina lagoon. The Floating Bures are only centimetres off the lagoon; the experience and ambience of a stay in an Edgewater Floating Bure is nothing short of stunning. Both the narrow arms forming the marina lagoon are raised up a little to provide shelter and both these arms house two more remarkable accommodation options; the adults-only Edgewater Bures face south and west and have beautiful private exterior living areas facing the sunsets as well as spacious interiors designed to capture views of Koro Bay from all parts of the living area. Ladders off the deck lead guests straight into the clear waters of Koro Bay. On the eastern side of the marina lagoon there are several 2-level villas which could almost be called “Overwater Bungalows” as they cantilever off the land over the bay. Each has a private plunge pool on the land side and a ladder off the lower deck giving direct access to the bay. Each has a window in the floor of the lounge enabling views of the sea below. Enjoy the Seaside Restaurant perched on the entrance to the marina lagoon and the Edgewater Beach Club and Wai Bar located on the land side.
Koro Sun is way up there when it comes to providing for the different needs of families and those guests travelling without children. Their Jungle Kids Club provides sanctuary for children and their complimentary nanny service takes expert care of young children so their parents can enjoy a holiday in the knowledge their children are happy and well catered for. The adults-only accommodation and facilities ensure adults are well looked after too.
So, be as active or as relaxed as the mood takes you. There is excellent kayaking to be enjoyed out into Koro Bay to enjoy the small islands dotted around. Enjoy the mainly deserted beaches on these islands and close by to the resort, take an organised trek into the interior of Vanua Levu to enjoy the spectacular forests and waterfalls, enjoy the professional scuba dive operation to dive world-renowned dive sites around Vanua Levu or take advantage of the resort bicycles and make your way into sleepy Savusavu Town to enjoy the restaurants and the market. Or, relax on your Bure or Villa veranda and enjoy the lazy tropical gardens, ponds or lagoons.
Koro Sun is well known for its food and a choice of meal plans is available and can be prearranged through Our Specialists.
This delightful property is an excellent option for singles, couples, families and for groups of friends travelling together, honeymooners, Island Wedding parties (they have a very nice vow renewal package available too) – they have everyone’s needs covered and deliver so well. This is a great spot!
