OUR thoughts on VOMO Island, Mamanuca Islands, Fiji
Vomo is one up-market Fiji resort which accepts families with children of all ages year round. You can’t help but be impressed by the way Vomo handles families. Their Kids’ Village (Kids’ Club) is nothing short of amazing and kids just love being there. The Kids’ Village at Vomo is purpose-built and has superb facilities and trained full-time staff. Kids really enjoy the room full of toys and the enclosed indoor slide to name but a couple of features. The covered outdoor dining area at the Kids’ Village serves a supervised dinner from 5:30pm, although, of course, children are always welcome to dine with their parents in the Resort’s Reef Restaurant.
Vomo has a well-earned, high reputation for its food and all meals are included in the price paid to stay here, as are non-alcoholic beverages consumed with meals and from the in-room mini-bars. Time-after-time we have enjoyed really stunning meals at Vomo and the high standards are maintained whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. Vomo’s chef has got the balance right with cuisine which suits a tropical climate perfectly and freshness is guaranteed through extensive use of the on-site resort garden. There is a separate Kids’ Menu. The main dining venue is the Resort’s Reef Restaurant, but on balmy nights you may enjoy dinner served by lamp-light around the pool and for lunch, for a change, the venue may include seaside dining under the big trees beside the beach. We are impressed with the ease of organising a private-dining occasion during a stay at Vomo. Breakfast and lunch picnics are a specialty, but it is no trouble at all to arrange a private romantic lunch or dinner, or maybe a private family function – the options and the venues are many and varied and now include The adults-only Rocks Grill which is open daily for lunch (until 3:00pm) and dinner every night from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
Vomo does not provide noisy motorised watersports equipment on island. However the use all non-motorised sports equipment is complimentary and this includes sailing craft, kayaks, paddle-boards and a daily snorkelling trip (snorkelling gear included). Also included are complimentary green fees, golf clubs and balls for use on the 9-hole chip-and-putt golf course and a tennis court. Yet another new service is the VOMOfit workout each morning at 7:00am - so don't forget to pack your gym shoes.
Some of the many special features of a holiday on Vomo are; the Rocks Bar located out on the western tip of the island which is open every evening except Wednesday when the Fiji Cultural night & complimentary beachfront cocktail party followed by a Meke and Lovo, so guests can take in the spectacular sunsets while enjoying sunset canapés; Vomo Lailai, the uninhabited off-shore island which guests can exclusively book for a castaway romantic lunch experience; the complimentary bottle of wine in your room on arrival; the Sunset Canapés at the bar. Then there is the more down-to-earth, but never-the-less impressive complimentary daily wash and iron laundry service provided for all guests and the complimentary Wifi throughout the whole resort including the villas.

Room Categories (In ascending order of tariff)
Hillside Villas:
The Villas themselves are a generous 46m2 in size. To this add a 15m2 deck which flows out from the interior. The Villas are open plan with ample room for a sleeping area with a King Bed and a lounge area with a 2-seater sofa, a good-sized coffee table and a single chair and desk. The bathrooms are modern and a good size and come with a spa bath and shower. Naturally the villas are air-conditioned and also have fans as an alternative/addition to the air-conditioning. The deck is plenty big enough to hold a table and 2 chairs and is not fenced in order to preserve the outlook. The Hillside Villas located on the hill itself have great views, but would be a challenge for a pram or wheel chair. The villas which are located at the base of the hill have a pleasant, semi-shaded, leafy outlook. All Villas are separate stand-alone buildings. There is a privacy curtain which may be employed between the bed and lounge areas.
No interconnecting Villas are offered in this category
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged up to 16 years
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which may be split into 2 Single Beds and 1 single bed-size Sofa/Day Bed in the lounge area.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Rollaway bed or cot may be added in the lounge area.
Beachfront Villas:
The Beachfront Villas have the same decor and facilities as the Hillside Villas and have a bigger (20m2) deck which flows out seamlessly from the interior. The extra deck area houses 2 sun-loungers in addition to the normal table and 2 chairs. From the deck there are 3 or 4 steps down to a small area of lawn before you reach the beach sand. There is a privacy curtain which may be employed between the bed and lounge areas. Beachfront Villas are all housed in duplex buildings which means there are 2 Villas to a building with a common central wall offering an interconnecting option which is handy for a family requiring a second bedroom.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged up to 16 years
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which may be split into 2 Single Beds and 1 single bed-size Sofa/Day Bed in the lounge area.

Beachfront Havens:
The Beachfront Havens categories offer the same decor and facilities as the Beachfront Villas but are guaranteed to be stand-alone buildings and not therefore providing an interconnecting option. From the deck there are 3 or 4 steps down to a small area of lawn before you reach the beach sand. There is a privacy curtain which may be employed between the bed and lounge areas.
Beachfront Family Retreats:
Similar in size to Beachfront Villas at 48m2 with a huge 40m2 deck and even closer to the beach, the 2 Beachfront Retreats differ in that, as well as the normal superb bathroom, they also have a private outdoor bathing deck with a second shower and free-standing bathtub, and, out front, an even bigger deck (40m2) from which guests virtually step right on to the beach. The large deck on both Retreats sports personal hammocks as well as outdoor seating and sun-loungers. The King Bed can split to make 2 Single Beds and, as the 2 Beachfront Retreats share a building, interconnecting Retreats are available which makes this accommodation category ideal for a family preferring privacy between the adult and the children’s sleeping space. Individual Beachfront Retreats have a privacy curtain which may be employed between the bed and lounge areas.
For the relatively small additional tariff over the Beachfront Villas, Beachfront Retreats are in high demand.
