MATAMANOA ISLAND RESORT
Our Resort Report
OUR thoughts on Matamanoa Island Resort, Matamanoa Island, Mamanuca Islands
It is hard to imagine a more perfect setup for a magical island holiday than Matamanoa. The island itself is a perfect size – not too small and not too big, just right. Matamanoa Island Resort is the only occupant of the island and takes up around 30% of the beach space on the island; the remainder is in its natural condition. The hill behind the resort buildings offers a magnificent vista of the myriad of islands making up the Mamanuca and Yasawa Groups as well as Fiji’s main island (Viti Levu) in the distance. If you can make an early start to your day and catch the sunrise from the top of the hill you will be rewarded with an unforgettable sight. The resort’s Spa is located on the hill. Just take a gentle walk up a boardwalk behind the tennis court and you come to the Nama Tree Top Spa with its fabulous view and wonderful, relaxing Spa treatments and massages.
The resort has a lovely infinity pool which is on the beachfront out front of the restaurant, lounge and bar where the beach is widest and where the opening in the surrounding coral garden and reef allows the transfer boats to approach the resort. Matamanoa, being an adults-only resort year-round, offers an intimate atmosphere for guests with options to join in and let your hair down without the kids frowning on the side-lines, or chilling out away from the guest activities as they see fit. During the day there are plenty of activities to enjoy such as a mountain hike, sulu tying demonstration, coconut husking & cracking demonstration, green coconut tasting, Fijian language lesson, weaving lessons, Fijian cooking lesson, snorkelling lessons, beach petanque, coconut bowling, beach cricket, beach soccer, beach touch rugby, tennis court, table tennis, Hobie-cats, snorkelling equipment, board games, these are only the complimentary options, there's a wide range of paid, optional activities too.
Matamanoa is a perfect spot for a wedding (they have a Wedding Co-ordinator on staff) It’s a great place for a honeymoon or for celebrating an anniversary. For anyone looking for an extra special treat, Matamanoa offers the option of a “Romantic Dinner for 2” – a very special 4 course meal with Lobster option and we are happy to pre-book this for you.

Room Categories (In ascending price range)
Resort Rooms:
The Resort Rooms are located in a single-level ribbon building in the gardens behind the Beachfront Bures to the left of the restaurant/pool complex as you arrive at the resort with no view of the beach/ocean. Each is 26m2 in size. The bathrooms are modern and bright.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 single beds.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 guests.
Additional Bedding: No additional bedding accommodated.
Beachfront Bures:
Each with a private plunge pool.
The Beachfront Bures are big, beautiful, stand-alone bures located in a semi-circle on the beach frontage either side of the restaurant/pool complex. There is often a debate over which side of the restaurant is preferable as one side faces the south-west (known as the Sunset-side) and the other faces south-east (the so-called Sunrise-side). All Beachfront Bures have a private plunge pool and a gazebo with day bed out front and outdoor furniture. An outdoor shower compliments the indoor shower. The gazebos are positioned so that guests in each Bure enjoy their deck and plunge pool in privacy.
Each bure is 54m2 in area and are a pleasant fusion of traditional Fiji design with high ceilings lined with hand-painted tapa and modern ceramic floor tiles and light-painted walls. There are timber louvered windows throughout and glass sliding doors open to a covered patio veranda facing the beach and the sea. While each bure is open-plan there are well defined sleeping and living areas usually on the same level.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 adults
Additional Bedding: The 3rd guest is accommodated on a sofa bed in the lounge made up with a single innerspring mattress when required.
Oceanfront Villas:
Each with a private plunge pool.
Located on the private North Beach, access is via a purpose built walkway or chauffeured golf cart. The 10 Beachfront Villas add another dimension to the accommodation options. Each Villa is a large 50m2 (excluding the gazebo and covered deck) and while it is open-plan the bedroom and the lounge are defined by the lounge being down 4 steps from the bedroom area. This provides 2-room ambience without compromising the feeling of openness and space and gives a view of the ocean from both the upper sleeping area and the lower lounge area. Villas are air-conditioned and have a ceiling fan.
Bathrooms in the Beachfront Villas have twin vanities, separate shower and separate toilet. To add to the “South Pacific” theme the villas also include a private walled outdoor courtyard garden which features a tropical outdoor shower. The big (14.4m2) covered veranda deck boarders an individual plunge pool. A separate 4m2 thatched gazebo comes complete with a double day bed
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 adults
Additional Bedding: The 3rd guest is accommodated on a sofa bed in the lounge made up with a single innerspring mattress when required.
