AITUTAKI VILLAGE
Our Resort Report

OUR Thoughts on Aitutaki Village, Ootu Beach, Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Aitutaki’s magnificent inner lagoon is roughly triangular in shape.  Aitutaki’s main island forms the apex of the triangle and extends in a narrow promontory from the peak of the triangle (where the airport is located), some distance down the right-hand side before breaking up into the myriad smaller lagoon islands which form the huge Aitutaki Lagoon. Aitutaki Village is on a beautiful inner lagoon-facing beach located on “the mainland” just before the big island breaks into the small reef-fringing islands.  This means Aitutaki Village guests are sheltered from the prevailing winds while enjoying an excellent beachfront site with spectacular views of the Aitutaki Lagoon and the superb sunsets over the lagoon from the beach-front hotel restaurant. The beautiful, big Aitutaki lagoon is tidal but there is genuine all-tide swimming just 50 metres up the beach at Aitutaki Village.  There are very few mid-range resorts facing into the Aitutaki Lagoon which front a good beach, this is one of them.

The location is also great in as much that, while it is on the main island of Aitutaki, staying here, you get the feeling of being on a small lagoon island, so you get the convenience of being able to easily access all the attractions of “mainland” Aitutaki including the many beaches, restaurants and cafés, while enjoying the “castaway island” feeling at Aitutaki Village.

The departure point for Bishops Cruises to glorious One Foot Island is very handy to Aitutaki Village and we will happily pre-book a day trip out to One Foot for you.  The cruises depart Ootu at 10:00am returning at 4:00pm and include use of beach towels and snorkelling gear, lunch and refreshments. The cost is NZ$95 per adult, NZ$60 for children aged 2 to 11 years and free for infants aged under 2.

For those wishing to visit One Foot Island at their own pace and take their own lunch, there is a daily Water Taxi service out to One Foot Island which departs Ootu at 10:00am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm.  The return journeys depart One Foot at 1:45pm, 2:30pm and 4:00pm.  The round-trip cost is around NZ$60 per adult, NZ$35 per child (2 to 11 years) and infants travel free. Guests arrange the water taxi services direct with Aitutaki Village during their stay.

Aitutaki Village has a really enjoyable island night, (usually on a Tuesday) which features a seriously good village cultural group.  If you can possibly manage to be at Aitutaki Village on a Tuesday when the village cultural group is performing you will be delighted by the experience. What Aitutaki Village Say About Themselves:

Your Accommodation Options
When staying at Aitutaki Village, you realise just how apt the name really is as the whole place oozes the atmosphere of a tropical beach village.  The front of the sand-floor restaurant and bar is virtually on the beach. The 12 stand-alone huts, which are in two rows of 6 huts, extend back inland from the beach. The huts are set each side of a central tropical garden and each one has a decent-sized veranda which faces inward towards the central garden.  All huts are exactly the same size, where they differ, is in their location and bedding arrangements. Most have a King Bed, some have 2 Single Beds instead of the King Bed and the Happy Beach Huts have a King Bed and a set of bunks for 2 children. All have air-conditioning and a ceiling fan as well as being set up 3 or 4 steps above the sand to aid cooling by air circulation beneath. The bungalows have a relaxing ‘timber cabin’ feel about them with wood floors, walls and peaked ceilings.

There is a fridge, kettle and tea/coffee making facility as well as a hairdryer in the ensuite bathroom. The whole hut is well screened against insects; indeed, you rarely see an insect which is remarkable for a hut built in a tropical garden right on the beach.

Housekeeping/linen change service is provided every two to three days.Room Categories (in ascending order of tariff)
