OUR Thoughts on Aore Island Resort
The 3-kilometre (10-15 minute) journey from Luganville Wharf across the Segond Channel between Santo and Aore brings you to a superbly relaxing sight; a short jetty leading to a beautiful palm-fringed beach and the wonderful Aore Island Resort’s main building with its natural-thatch roof and its restaurant and lounge veranda virtually on the beach. The private bungalows set a few steps above the beach and backed by the palm forest spread out along the shore on both sides of the jetty. We reckon that at the very moment you arrive at this place, you can feel the stresses of the outside world starting to drain away. And that’s what Aore Island Resort is all about; relaxation and rejuvenation, whether you are travelling alone, as a couple, on a honeymoon, with some dive mates or as a family, you will very, very quickly be in relaxation mode.
Because Aore Island Resort is only 10 minutes from the mainland, it really is possible to base yourself at this resort and easily access all the many sights and attractions of Santo. It’s a great option for scuba divers to come with their family as the resort’s babysitters are wonderful and the kids love them almost instantly, which giver divers the opportunity to enjoy the world-class diving while their kids are well looked after. It’s also a great option for couples when only one person is a diver. The professional Aore Adventures Dive Company picks divers up directly from the resort jetty and you can be diving wrecks and reefs within minutes.

What Aore Island Resort Say About Themselves
“Aore Island is 11km long and 9km wide, the resort is built on a flat coastal area and has views to the wide escarpment leading up to a higher rainforest level. The resort is surrounded by working cattle and coconut plantations. On the upper level there is natural untouched rainforest, a botanical wonderland with huge banyan trees. Guests can wander safely alone or join a guided tour.
The Resort Ferry takes you away from Santo and is only a short trip to the private Aore Island Resort. On arrival you will be impressed with the clear blue water and the number of fish; we call it our natural fish pond. The wharf leads to the large Traditional Melanesian Style Nakamal. The Nakamal is situated on the waterfront and has views across the channel. The Beachfront Bungalows spread out on either side on a sandy coral beach running the full length of the -resort and large shady trees offer a cool retreat from the sun. The 12m pool is set beside the Nakamal.
The Large Nakamal with a wide veranda terrace is the centre of the Resort. It houses the Bar, Restaurant and Lounge Area. A continental breakfast is included in your room rate and a cooked breakfast is available at an additional cost. Lunch can be eaten in the Nakamal, on the veranda or around the pool. Evenings are relaxing and guests can wander down from their bungalows and sip cocktails as they watch the sunset or relax in the Lounge area and listen to a Local String Band. Dining on the veranda with the lights reflecting across the water from the town creates a special ambiance unique to Aore Island Resort.
The Restaurant offers an All Day Dining Menu and a Specials Blackboard for lunch and dinner. The All Day Dining Menu allows guests to enjoy a light meal, salad or maybe a pizza any time of the day. The Specials change daily and include local delicacies such as famous Santo beef, lobsters and local seafood. All meals are cooked on order and the chef is more than happy to cater for your individual tastes.
Island Night is a popular night at the resort. Custom Dancers from an Outer Island with a Local String Band come to the resort to perform for the guests. Stories are told about island customs and guests can try the local drink, Kava. A buffet of traditional local food and Santo seafood is served. The night ends with dancing local style and a good time is had by all.”
