PACIFIC RESORT AITUTAKI
Our Resort Report
OUR Thoughts on Pacific Resort Aitutaki
Many years ago, when Cook Islands tourism was in its infancy, the very modest, government-owned Rapae Hotel was built on Aitutaki. With a full choice of all locations on this picture-perfect island, the Rapae Hotel was built on the best site available. After seeing service for some considerable time, the old Rapae Hotel was ultimately removed and now the Pacific Resort Aitutaki occupies an area which takes in much of that wonderful site. The name of the original hotel lives on at Pacific Resort Aitutaki in the resort’s signature “Rapae Bay Restaurant”.
What makes the site of Pacific Resort Aitutaki so special is the location on a small, west-facing promontory marking the turning point of the kilometres-long beach which ends at the northern point of the island in one direction near the airport and at the town of Arutanga, an equal distance away in the other direction. With half the beachfront bungalows on each side of the point, guests have the option of a bungalow facing the wide beach on one side of the point or a bungalow on the other side of the point with a narrower beach and the lagoon only a few steps away. From every part of the resort, the view of the lagoon with the reef and the ocean beyond and the sunset over the lagoon is breathtaking.
The Resort continues to win international awards year after year and once you have experienced Pacific Resort Aitutaki, it is easy to see why. The experience starts the minute you enter the terminal at Aitutaki Airport where Pacific Resort Aitutaki guests are shown to a private meeting area and welcomed by resort staff. A short, 10-minute drive later guests enter the resort’s beautiful entrance lobby and what a relaxing space this is, with its water features, its Polynesian style and relaxed luxurious ambience.
There are 2 restaurants – The Rapae Bay and Black Rock, a gift shop, a spa and a magical horizon swimming pool; and all this servicing only 29 bungalows and villas. Black Rock is open for lunch only and closes after sunset, Rapae Bay is open daily for breakfast and dinner (from 5:00pm). We know that most people visiting Aitutaki arrive with the intention of enjoying dinners at the many restaurants and cafes on the island, but we also know that many guests at Pacific Resort Aitutaki never actually dine outside the Resort. The dining experience at either of their estaurants, or on their bungalow’s private veranda is so completely satisfying that, somehow, plans for dining out seem to get forgotten. Meal Plans are offered for pre-purchase.
Pacific Resort Aitutaki includes full a la carte cooked breakfasts at their Rapae Bay Restaurant in their normal year-round tariff.
